Black Coffee, founded by Jacques van der Watt, pays close attention to detail and masterfully combines old South African design motifs into his modern designs. His designs consist of sharp structure, complex layers and distinctive patterns, but once they come together it compliments the body and skin effortlessly. It’s safe to say that he brings both bold and elegant features to streetwear.
Van der Watt’s first collection was shown during South African Fashion Week in 1999, and his label has since become synonymous with cutting-edge, indigenous fashion design. Black Coffee also has a habit of hosting his shows in unusual locations, such as Constitution Hill in Johannesburg.
