Gert-Johan Coetzee is unquestionably one of South Africa’s most popular and admired fashion designers, with clients including former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela, Miss Universe 2018, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, and talk show presenter Oprah Winfrey.
Coetzee is known for taking a stand as a social activist. His shows at Fashion Week often highlight issues that he openly discusses. This includes shows and pieces that address domestic abuse, the importance of education and awareness for breast-cancer, endanger wildlife and even our recent water crisis.
His pieces are considered couture and bespoke, but occasionally he also designs casual wear under the name GERT. Recently, he has also ventured into swimwear and underwear.
