Sthembiso Mchunu, Siyabonga Ngcamu, and Khayelihle Hadebe founded the Watermelon Social Club, a Johannesburg-based clothing brand, in 2016. It tells the story of the watermelon, a fruit that originated in Southern Africa but now it can be found all around the world.
Using streetwear as a tool to connect with people to create a community for culture and creativity, the brand has become a place for people to belong and explore. Sthembiso, the creative director behind the brand, explains how much they have been enjoying the use of traditionally inspired prints (from various cultures and tribes) in a postmodern society.
