It’s still summer… time to show off those toned beach bods and sexy swimwear. In Corona-times, we need our leisure time more than ever. Head straight to the pool or the beach (when lockdown allows of course!) with confidence in the very latest designs.
Swimwear this season offers a joyous yet refreshing mood. Many local brands have created swimwear that’s sensual and sustainable: South Africa has become the mecca of swimwear.
Shades of blue
Just like the sky and the ocean, blue represents new beginnings. Whether it’s a bodysuit, bikini or two-piece, shades of blue go well with the scenery especially when you’re lying on the white beach sand or catching a tan by the sparkling pool.
Atlas Label presents great shades of blue while displaying a range that’s elegant, timeless and sustainable.
“Our latest collection, Rise, was inspired by the ocean, the moon and the need to do more with less. At Atlas we’re constantly inspired by other small businesses that are pushing the envelope with creativity. It makes us always want to do better when releasing something new,” said Cristina Rovere of Atlas Label.

Perfect prints
Bring a bit of boldness to your swimwear collection by adding a mirage of prints which will surely make you stand out from the crowd. Gabrielle Swimwear and Beach Cult Swimwear encapsulate this trend flawlessly.
“Print on print and matching sets will be huge this season, with the one-piece swimsuit in interesting silhouettes reigning strong as the favourite for fashion-forward girls. We favour flattering wrap and tie pieces to accentuate the waist,” explains Joanna Hedley of Beach Cult. It’s clear why the brand has generated so many loyal fans.
Gabrielle Swimwear opts for a darker tone in prints while recycling plastic bottles to create her innovative collection. “I chose mauve arum lilies which are rich in colour and depth and make for a stunning, bold print. I used simple, clean lines with a classic string and the full piece design – the print says it all,” says MD and designer, Gabrielle Kool. Comfort is also key with these stunning options.
If you want a stroll down memory lane, then modern yet nostalgic prints are the way to go. Pintuck Resort creates bold and wildly infectious retro prints in their new collection. “Gorgeous original and retro prints transformed in a modern way is the future of swimwear,” said Beryl Goslett, Pintuck Resort designer.

Animalia
Bring the jungle to the beach or the pool by fiercely rocking animal print swimwear. Animal prints never go out of style and they remain daring and chic, even in swimwear. Whether leopard or zebra, experiment with as many animal prints as you want: be fearless.
Beach Cult Swimwear and Julia showcase this trend seamlessly in their collections. “The blue and white print is in line with this season’s more minimal iteration of animal prints, which has been so prominent in swimwear worldwide,” says Julia Buchanan.

Black is the new black
It’s the only colour that will always be a go-to, and that matches with any item of clothing. You can choose to go either go high waisted, textured or check the boxes for fun accessories like fringed sarongs. It all depends on how you choose to style it.
The whole idea is to make swimwear fun and not restrict yourself with plain, dated swimwear. Summer’s begun and with so many design options available in whichever trend takes your fancy, looking fabulous and feeling your best is easy.
