Made by Nayo, aka mBn, was created by fashion designer Nayo who began her journey in fashion in 2014, designing and sewing under the careful guidance and instruction of her talented mother. Just a few years later, Nayo enrolled at leading SA fashion school FEDISA, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design in 2018.

The mBn journey began as a humble and small brand with a loyal clientele of close friends and word-of-mouth followers who knew and loved the designs. In 2018 Nayo boldly expanded her business, offering mBn collections to the online community.

Today mBn is a proudly South African brand with every stitch and hem handmade in Cape Town. Mbn is inspired by women, made by women, for women and devoted to creating exceptional and authentic designs for every occasion. The ethos is about allowing women to stand out, feel powerful and express their individuality.

Crystal Birch

Ella Brauer wearing dress from Shana Morland. Accessories by Kirsten Goss. Hat by Crystal Birch.

Never one to follow the status quo, Crystal Birch decided to skip the conventional “apparel design” route and go straight to the top, i.e. hats.

The maverick milliner, whose irreverent designs and interpretations of classic hats have become sought after and beloved adornments on the heads of South Africa’s fashion-conscious, studied fashion design at Elizabeth Galloway Academy of Fashion in Stellenbosch. She spent time in London, honing her skill under the fortuitous guidance of Noel Stewart and Piers Atkinson, arguably two of Europe’s finest talents in the art of millinery.

With humble beginnings selling from a stall at the Old Biscuit Mill market to now taking over the 84-year-old manufacturing company Parisian Milliners in Cape Town, the talented Crystal Birch creates hats for both men and women. Each style is unique and personal with its own charm and character.
